UbiEst MapBroker Overview

UbiEst relies on the most modern and up-to-date technologies for map display across multiple platforms.
UbiEst MapBroker is a complete cartographic suite providing web GIS services and capabilities, Navteq database, assistance and update management and service hosting. The service is transparent and can be integrated into any website (embedded) .
Adopting MapBroker platform allows customers to concentrate on their core business, without worrying about technical problems, implementation issues, development and update of the mapping services. Furthermore UbiEst provides pre-packaged products for instant integration: route optimization and dispatch management, local weather reports, up-to-the-minute traffic data, mobile device navigation (WAP, MMS, UMTS, etc.) and rich media contents integration like audio and video.

Our web services suite allows to easily and quickly access to web GIS capabilities through XML standard interface, in order to integrate location enabled features into external applications and IT infrastructure.
Our managed services reduce total cost of ownership for customers and rely on a secure and efficient data centre: this means no technical skills and update charges for clients and maximum efficiency.

General Characteristics
The whole architecture is conceived to be fault-tolerant at the greatest level. A replication of all elements is provided, allowing for easy horizontal and vertical scalability. Beside the utilisation of a very reliable hardware, UbiEst introduced in its systems some characteristics of redundancy and expansibility for each element.

A vertical cluster between the database servers and the servers machines has been introduced to automatically detect and manage any errors in any of the servers. The ‘surviving’ server will be able to provide service until the machine at fault is quickly restored.
All the memory systems are mirrored  in order to allow “hot-swapping” substitution. The database may be used in the read mode, with script utilisation possibility. Consequently, UbiEst is scheduled to make a replica of the database in order to ensure maximum functionality and reliability.

UbiEst guarantees the highest degree of reliability for its service management, including software, hardware, Internet bandwidth connection and complete supply (i.e. load balancing, clustering etc.).
We firmly believe in the efficiency of our solutions, with a 24/7 uptime service of 99.99%.

The Service
The requests managed by the web-server could be:

• Static map in .GIF format starting from an address or a set of valid coordinates
• Static route between two addresses.
• Dynamic Maps and Routes through Java Applet.
• Search for Point Of Interest, according to various parameters (nearest to.., P.O.I. category search, P.O.I. map layouts, etc..).

Responses generated could be:

• Map in GIF format with highlighted P.O.I. typology .
• Navigation functions: panning to four cardinal points, Zoom function, etc. 
• Route directions: textual and/or graphic description of manoveurs and distances.
• Java Applet for map or route visualization, complete with the (textual) description of the routes to be followed.
